Twitter is a great place where you can find lots of new friends, clients and business partners. I am writing how can you start quickly & effectively on twitter as a small business.

step # 1 Create an Account

Go to twitter.com and sign up for an account. One thing is really important in social media marketing that people like to hang out with people not with logos.

You can select your twitter user name as your company name but never add your nick name in the user info if you are really serious about business. Keep in mind following important points when creating twitter account for business.

  • Select twitter user name as your company e.g. JR Accounts
  • Under full name use your real name

step # 2 Complete Your Profile

Twitter will be your business profile on the web, therefore people should get the required information about you when they look at your profile.

  • Add Your Profile Picture (Not Company Logo)
  • Add Company Website or Blog
  • Complete the short bio, use casual tone, include who you are, your position and your interests at least
  • Get the twitter background design

step # 3 Follow Industry Influencers

After completing step 2 you are ready to jump into the twitter space and find people to follow and receive their tweets. Best way to do this is find your industry influencers and follow them. See what are they tweeting, how they tweeting and who is following them. Then follow them who is following industry influencers to socialise.

Generally when you follow some one they follow you back, to give back the love. Don’t stop here use @username replies or direct messages to communicate with them.

More you communicate, more your relationship grow and you can leverage your efforts.

step # 4 Start Tweeting

By now you should be getting flood of tweets, but real magic happens when you start tweeting. Because social media marketing is all about two way communication.

You can tweet:

  • Quotes
  • Some thing going on your mind you think people can benefit
  • Your new and old blog posts
  • Industry News
  • Interesting stories
  • Whatever you can think of, you got the tool use it your advantage

step # 5 find Friends to Follow You

You can also search your friends on twitter, follow them and I am sure friends like communicating with friends. This will grow your followers.

step # 6 Engage with People

To me social media marketing is all about communication tools like e-mail, phone, fax or post, means if you don’t communicate nothing will happen.

If you are looking for any sort of result, take massive action now.

Feel free to ask any question or share your thoughts in the comments below.
